Volunteer in Nepal

SVPI has been running volunteer programs in Chitwan, Nepal since 2012.

Our end of year Nepal programs are aimed at volunteers with a diverse range of life experiences. No experience necessary and all ages welcome.

Health volunteer programs: Anyone interested in healthcare is welcome to participate in this volunteer program. The work involves commuting from Sauraha daily to outlying villages and providing health education and basic health assessments. Mini healthcamp/first aid work is also organised during the volunteers stay allowing the students to work alongside Nepalese medical personnel and to help with the treatment of various medical conditions. Nursing and medical student volunteers also participate in women’s and men’s health forums. The objective of these sessions is to identify the major issues facing women and men in rural Nepal and to share knowledge that may help to overcome some of these problems.

Education volunteer programs: Anyone with a good grasp of English is welcome to come along and help to teach primary school aged children in rural villages. The school in the village of Padampur is desperately under-staffed and under-resourced. In 4 small classrooms, 3 teachers work to educate and care for over 200 students per day. At the school, volunteers to teach English and IT skills are always needed.

Environmental volunteer programs: Nepal is struggling with many environmental issues, especially pollution. Volunteers will be involved with working with communities to develop sustainable solutions and also in the education of the younger generation on environmental issues and how they can help their communities.
